The challenge

• The Logitech MX Ink was a first: the first third-party stylus officially supported by Meta Quest, and the first time Quest headsets would support more than two paired controllers simultaneously. For a product this novel, there were no exsiting conventions to draw from, and users picking up a stylus while using VR headset for the first time would have no prior mental model for what pairing meant, how it worked, or what they could do with it.

• To make it trickier, Logitech had their own product language and UX standards. We had to incorporate Logitech’s interaction model while making the experience feel wholly native to Quest.

What I did

• I designed and wrote the UX copy for the MX Ink pairing and setup flow on Meta Quest — the onboarding instructions, device recognition states, error handling, and in-context education that guided a user from physical stylus in hand to fully tracked, ready-to-create tool inside the headset.

• I worked directly within Logitech's product guidelines to ensure the language accurately reflected their standards and respected their brand voice, while fitting cleanly into the Quest interface conventions users already knew. The custom tutorial and dedicated Meta Settings integration — where users can remap buttons and adjust pressure curves — required careful, precise copy that communicated what were genuinely new hardware concepts without overwhelming first-time users.

The result

• The MX Ink launched at Meta Connect 2024 to strong coverage across tech and XR press. It marked the first time Meta Quest supported simultaneous tracking of more than two controllers, and the pairing patterns established for MX Ink set a precedent for future third-party hardware integrations on the platform.
